Chingay or å¦†è‰º (zhuangyi) is an annual vibrant parade that celebrates the multi-ethnic and cosmopolitan culture.

Ever since the ban on fireworks in 1972, then Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, decided on an alternative event called Chingay or å¦†è‰º (zhuangyi) to celebrate the Lunar New Year to make up for the lack of fireworks - a tradition to ward off evil spirits and the first parade was held in 1973. Now, it has become a recognizable event which encapsulate Singapore's multi-ethnic and cosmopolitan culture.

This year's parade, Chingay 2020: Colours in Harmony, showcases numerous performance and floats to represent the different communities in Singapore and their harmony with one another. The parade would be held in the F1 Pit building on the 31st of January and the 1st of February 2020. Not only will the parade be held in the F1 pit building but it would also be travelling to heartlands in Singapore.
